Client's Brief

Having recently purchased a beautiful new build property, this young couple wanted to make the most of their reasonably sized south facing garden which was mainly laid to lawn. They wanted a hidden utility area for a shed and waste bins and an extra seating area positioned in the shade. The view over the fence to the neighbour’s house side wall needed softening and the view to the garage wall and side door into the garden needed attention. A large lawn area was to be retained and low maintenance but colourful planting required. The neighbour’s garage wall also lined the garden boundary and need to be covered.

This design required the space to be zoned into three different areas. The garden had a stunning brick wall at its edge and I wanted to highlight this with some feature topiary pieces placed in front. The existing patio was added to using the same paving material. A new seating area was positioned next to the garage wall with a connecting pathway of contrasting brick pavers and the wall was clad with wood battens to match the new screened utility area.

The screening of views was accomplished with both ornamental teardrop shaped pear trees and a stunning multi-stem tree placed within a circular bed lined with granite chippings. The planting scheme used a cool colour palette of whites, purples and blues with a mixture of evergreen and perennial plants. The garden was all ready for a contemporary louvered roof pergola to be installed onto the patio area.

Client’s Review – Jon designed the garden for our new home and we were delighted with the results. Having never had to think about a garden before Jon helped us through the whole process and took the time to understand and interpret what we wanted. He recommended a great landscaping team and we are really pleased with the results.
